Bought this to use after back surgery, and it works fine, just as advertised. I’m 5’11” and the length is just right for me. The grip is fine enough to pick up items like a single piece of paper (after a couple of tries :-); I haven’t tried anything over a pound or so, but there’s clearly some upper weight limit.

Hint: for the first few weeks after my surgery, I was using a walker. My son rigged up a way to attach this device to the side of the walker, using a plastic “U” bracket and securing it to the side of the walker with a plastic “cable tie”; (see attached photos). Put the Grip ‘n Grab into the U bracket with the handle down; a short strip of self-adhesive velco, with one side of the velcro on the middle brace of the walker and the corresponding piece of velco about halfway down the length of the gripper tool, keeps the tool secure when the walker is in motion. (An inexpensive “nail belt” from Lowes also fit the front of the walker, and provides a couple of pockets on the walker for small items.

I have had this grabber for 4years and never had a problem with it so I did not understand why people were complaining about the poor quality. So since the cost was so good I decided to order 2 more to use in other rooms since I was always forgetting to take it with me. The 2nd day I had them one broke where the pinchers connect with the shaft. Got my old one out and they are exactly the same. Either they changed manufactures or material but something has changed. I will no longer be recommending these to anyone and am sending back the 2 New ones…Too bad they had a real good product for awhile. Obviously need better quality control.

It works great. It uses a metal cable instead of string or rope. I’ve been using it 50 to 75 times a day at my workplace 5 days per week for at least a month and it has given me no problems.

    Addendum:

After writing the initial review above, I am adding some more. I used this at my work place at least 75 times per day x 5 day per week for about 2 months. That’s about 3000 uses. At this point, the metal cable began to fray at the pivot point as shown in the photo. Since this product was probably designed for home and not industrial use, I still recommend it. It will most likely last you for years with average daily home use. Perhaps the Grip ‘n’ Grab could be resigned using a stronger cable. I applied several drops of Gorilla Glue to the frayed area and it seems to be holding up for now.
